Our raw materials are sourced from across the country, often from the most rural corners where age-old traditions continue to thrive. We travel extensively — sometimes with translators — to discover and source traditional handmade crafts from these regions. Our team is constantly researching, exploring, and reimagining ways to transform these crafts into unique designs that resonate with the modern, urban aesthetic.

Meet Our Founder : Jayashree Krishnan
With a Chartered Accountancy degree and over a decade of experience in capital market services, Jayashree Krishnan brings a unique blend of financial acumen and creative vision to Maati Crafts. Since 2006, she has dedicated herself to the artisanal livelihood sector, working tirelessly to create sustainable income opportunities for artisans while building one of India’s most respected artisanal brands.
Over the last 16 years, under her leadership, Maati has earned a reputation for weaving tradition into the modern world — innovating with hand-block printed, handmade fabrics and reimagining them into contemporary, timeless silhouettes. Each design is fresh and distinctive, yet carries the quiet elegance of heritage.
Beyond being a strategist and entrepreneur, Jayashree is a storyteller, designer, and artist at heart. Her paintings and travels inspire her creative work, infusing every collection with narratives that celebrate both individuality and cultural memory. A true creative soul, she continues to bridge the worlds of artistry and enterprise, keeping alive the stories of craft while crafting new possibilities for the future.
